DMACC Graphic Design Students Bring Local Creativity to Arcadia Video Wall
Published 10/01/2026
When R&R Realty Group installed a large-scale video wall as part of the redevelopment of the Arcadia building in 2025, the goal was to create a dynamic visual experience within the building. A year later, the technology is creating an unexpected opportunity to showcase local creativity.
The idea came from Stuart Clausen, IT Analyst with R&R Realty Group Technology Services. As the team explored the ability to continually update the video wall with new content, Stuart saw an opportunity to invite local graphic design students to create something specifically for the display.
R&R reached out to local colleges and universities with the idea, and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) incorporated the opportunity into its Digital Artistry class, led by Heather Purdy, Program Chair and Professor of Graphic Design.
Students created original static and motion-based digital artwork designed specifically for Arcadia’s video wall. The unique format challenged students to think beyond a traditional media and consider how their work would translate to a large-scale digital display.
The result is a collection of original pieces that bring new movement, color, and creativity to the Arcadia building while giving local students a unique place to showcase their work. With approximately 8,600 people passing through the Arcadia lobby each month, the video wall gives students the opportunity to have their work seen by a new audience outside the classroom.
In recognition of National Arts & Humanities Month, R&R will feature the DMACC students’ artwork on the Arcadia video wall every Monday throughout the month of October. Visit in-person or see their work on the Arcadia video wall here.
